Being signed off work while on UniCredit and working

Hi i have suffered a bereavement and was self certifying sick off work for 7 days when it happened. It was an expected death due to cancer so it was all in my doctors files that i could take the time off when i felt the time was right to spend that time with my family but apparently i had to self certify for the 7 days first.
The official sick note was done on friday which i will need to get tomorrow as my Dad died on friday.
I am just wondering how it all works with Uni Credit? How do i inform them? Do i do a change in circumstances or pop a message in my journal?
I earn a lot more than the threshold so i don't have any commitments or need to attend apps.
This is all new to me as i have never been signed off work before. Any advice is much appreciated thank you. I will get it all sorted tomorrow once i have the actual sick note. Small town so we have to pick them up from the surgery rather than have them emailed over.

Universal Credit automatically calculate allowance based on earnings reported through HMRC so money wise your award will be adjusted - remember they work 1month behind though! In terms of commitments I think you get a 6month grace period before you need to do anything so your no commitments should continue even if earnings fall below the threshold. You could put a message on journal to be sure though.

You don’t need to report to UC for the period of self certification no doctors note is required.

Do you mean they're not paying you while you're signed off? Is that why you're asking about what to do?

Singlemamax · 01/09/2024 20:52

@purpleme12 no i should get sick pay or some paid bereavment leave i just wondered if i need to inform uni credit that i am signed off work as i don't want to get into trouble for not informing them of a change in circumstances if that is even the case here as i am not sure how it all works.

You're still employed by them and signed off for bereavement (so presumably going back At some point in the near future) so you don't have to let them know about this.

But you can if you want to of course.

I think you need to tell UC you've been signed off via a change of circs on your journal and send then the 'fit' note.
