My credit card was cloned the other day and they said purchases were made for train journeys three train journeys on the same day

I didn't have to cancel the card because the bank already cancelled it and the money has been refunded so I don't have to pay for the purchases and and you card is coming out to me

I would like to know what sort of journeys were made with the cart I know which train station they tried to buy the tickets from but I would also like to know where the journey is we're going to and is there any way to catch the person who did this and I do not know where the this was done at the train station or over the internet I really don't understand all this and I have lost the card the last time I used the credit card was to pay for a taxi journey and now I cannot find the card so I think I must have dropped it I don't know but you hear about these things all the time and you never think it could happen to you until it does so do I just receive the new card and forget about it or try and pursue this further and find out more about it because otherwise the person has got away with it

These people are very clever and are virtually impossible to catch. My bank card was cloned and the only way I got my money back was saying how impossible it was for my card to have been used at a store in Idaho, USA and a store in Berlin with a 4hour timeframe between transactions 😅 Especially when my physical card was in my purse and I live in the UK. Even now, I get a notification on my phone to say a blocked card of mine attempted a transaction so they're definitely still chancing it. I would forget about it and just be extra careful with your new card.

Did you pay for the taxi while still in it? Could you have dropped it in the taxi, thinking you'd popped it in your bag? I imagine the next passenger of your taxi went from their home (on the assumption they had luggage) to the railway station, and, on finding your card in the taxi decided to use that for their train fare.
If you pre-booked the taxi, can the company confirm the taxi driver's next fare was private address to station? If so it's worth reporting, as presumably they then have a potential suspect.
Otherwise perhaps you just dropped it roadside and a chancer found it, so they won't be traceable.

I got the taxi from the taxi office anyway I've got my new card I don't know how much more careful I can be maybe try not to drop it or lose it always keep it with me

I have a friend who does not have a credit card and I didn't have a credit card for a few years but then one evening I went to the cash point with my debit card to get some cash and there was something wrong with my card and it wouldn't give me any cash set a friend I was with had to lend me some money but if I had a credit card I could have got some cash out with the credit card and use the credit card until I got to replacement debit card so I think that's why it is vital to have a credit card for emergencies and I discovered that my debit card had not been cloned there was just something wrong with the card

Trying not to drop or lose your bank card is entry level cautiousness, had you not already been doing that?

Flute56 · 26/08/2024 06:42

I don't normally drop or lose my card anyway what done is done going forward I don't need to be more carefully in future

I got stuck one time before I had my credit card because I went to the cash point and my debit card wouldn't work and I had no cash so I was left with no money so now I've got a credit card that's a backup

Why not have two bank accounts so you have two debit cards?
If you have a problem with one, you can use the other.
Withdrawing cash from a credit card can cost a fair amount in interest.

Having a back up current account with a completely separate bank is a good idea anyway in case a bank has IT issues.

Just be aware that some banks have more than one brand and could be using the same IT infrastructure.
