Quick question: what does Pro Rata mean?

Is it the right term to apply for a job where you are paid a salary and taxed on it, but the amount you get is dependent on how many assignments you actually complete in the month? Or is there a different term for that?

no that's surely piece rate? pro rata is paid per proportion of time? like half-time paid at half rate...

it is by how many hours you work
so a job advertised as 20K pro rata will be half that if you work half the full time hours

So if you are paid £10K per annum pro rata for doing 2.5 days work you will be paid accordingly ie £5K

Being paid on assignments completed is probably more like a performance bonus or commission

you're thinking of piece work aren't you?

if a job is advertised as £12k a year. that is the wages for a 40 hour week.

if you only wish to work say 20 hours then you would get £6k a year.

OK it's piece work I think - I am paid per assignment completed/quota fulfilled.
