Items left at owners risk - how far does this extend?

Can any legal bods give me some advice?

Items are left at owners risk and the owner takes reasonable measures to secure their possessions.

What if the owner of the site where the possessions are kept is negligent in their security and your possessions are stolen?

Is "left at owners risk" absolute or is there at least some statutory obligation?

Would need some more details to advice, ie this could be a car left on a car park or items in a hotel safe etc.

You can't contract out of obligations arising from negligence. If owner is negligent then they are responsible for your loss. Proving negligence isn't easy - you first have to prove they had a duty of care and if they have a sign up saying "items left at owners risk" then they may not have a duty of care re security of your possessions.

Thank you!

Negligence was proven today by some interesting CCTV footage and a happy ending in sight.
