Does anyone know what it means when they tell you over the phone ‘it is due a decision’ does that mean it has been looked at or it hasnt? I called today as I sent my childs forms for renewal in may. Its due to end september but havent heard anything

The forms and evidence are in somebody's in tray?

Jm33 · 31/07/2024 20:07

Doubt it unfortunately! They received my forms on 4th April and my son’s DLA is due to end on the 6th August. I phoned up 2 days ago and they said I ‘should’ hear before the expiry date.

Fah66 · 01/08/2024 13:00

They said the exact same thing to me. Also that they are not allowed to say if it was with a DM or not. Will you post on here if you hear back before this date it would give me an idea as to whether mine would be the same or not

They don’t look at them in order of when you send them in, they look at the in order of how long it is until your award expires. So it’s usually right before it expires that you hear, even if you send it in early.

Yeah I’ll post on here when I hear anything, should be next week latest but who knows!

Jm33 · 02/08/2024 11:56

Hiya, I phoned up this morning and they told me a decision has been made and I’ll find out through letter in 7-10 days. I explained I needed to know urgently because it effects carers allowance etc and the dla is due to expire in 2 working days. He transferred me to someone who advised my son is continuing on high rate care thank goodness. A long wait but got there in the end. Hope you get the decision your hoping for x

Aww mate so pleased for you. I think I have a wait yet then. Hopefully hear something. Will never wrap my head around the wait or what takes them so long

Hey does anyone know if you have to re- tell uc about the child dla renewal accepted. How does it work!?

I think your UC award would continue to be calculated on the assumption that DLA is continuing (unless you were to tell them it's not, via 'report a change of circumstances' on the journal) .

UC are probably not aware that DLA is being reviewed.

And assuming your child's DLA is renewed as a result of the review (without need for challenging a DLA refusal via mandatory reconsideration or appeal) , just keep an eye on the UC statement breakdown - if it still includes the 'disabled child element' then you know everything's as it should be.

Obviously if the DLA award changes in any way after review, you need to inform UC as a change in DLA entitlement may change the amount of UC disabled child element or carer element you're entitled to)
