Virgin money problems

My mum and I opened a joint 40 day notice account with Clydesdale bank before it was taken over by Virgin. It has about £13k in it - rubbish interest rate so I want to close it.

Bank customer services say it needs to be done in branch and both of us need to be there. My mum lives in N Ireland (no branches there) and is terminally ill with stage 4 cancer - so can't travel to come here.

What a nightmare! Any suggestions??

I'm having similar issues with a single account. They say they have turned it into an online account (fine) but I need to go to a branch to prove my identity. I live in Surrey. They've closed all the Southern branches. My nearest one is now in Nottingham! Pricks.

X seems to have helped, apparently I need to bring a letter signed by her into branch and they should be able to do it.

We had similar issue to you when we were trying to move a Skipton account, but luckily managed to visit a local branch the day before it closed.
