Recommendations for VAT accounting tools?

Clearly, the most exciting thread on MN today!

I'm newly registered for VAT. Sole trader. I am looking for an app to facilitate preparation of my VAT return.

My accountant doesn't provide an app and hasn't been particularly helpful when asked for recommendations. She has only said that many apps aren't very good and I should proceed with caution.

Does anyone have an app they recommend? I don't mind paying for something that makes my life easier when it comes to preparing the return, but obviously don't want to shell out if there are free ones out there which do the job just as well.

Thanks in advance!

You can find a list on the link provided here https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/making-tax-digital-for-vat

I use Sage, which is a bit pricy but I find it extremely easy to use and have never had an issue with it.

Making Tax Digital for VAT

Check if you need to follow HMRC's rules for Making Tax Digital for VAT and find software.

Accounting software usually comes with VAT returns built in. You run the report and it spits out the figures you need.

Thank you both for your suggestions. I'll look into Sage and the others on the list. I think accounting software might be a little beyond my needs - and ability to understand!
