Saving for a house deposit / mortgages for older people.

Where is the best place to start putting money away for a house deposit?

I don't think we will be classed as first time buyers as we owned a property before that was unfortunately repossessed after the 2008 crash (wasn't repossessed until 2012).

We are now much more financially stable, clearing down old debt and would like to try and start again. All CCJs and old debts will be off our file in approx 3 years time so wanting to try and save as much as possible between now and then. By then I will be 43 and DH 52 so hoping we can still secure a mortgage.

Any other advice?

Hi, we were in a similar position to you, repossessed in 2008, managed to clear debts while renting for 15 years, and last year bought a house. We are in our fifties and managed to get a 20 year mortgage with Barclays. We are overpaying so hopefully will pay it off in around 10 years, using a bit of pension money for that too.
Good luck, it's doable and feels great to be back on our feet, just save as much as you can. We had ccjs that had fallen off our credit file and both have really good credit scores now.

Thank you so much for replying! This gives me hope!
Do you mind me asking what LTV you had?
