Pls pls Help-Tax Credits/UC and Widowed Parent’s Allowance

Hi,
I am hoping someone can pls help me. Any experience of receiving a back payment and award of WPS while claiming UC or TC would be very much appreciated.
I currently receive child tax credits and have applied for WPA, I think the claim is likely to go through and they have now asked me to send evidence. I have also just received a letter to transition to UC and, to complicate matters further, I am starting a f/t job next week, currently work p/t. I contacted tax credits and the change of job should be ok. The problem seems to be that if I get a back payment of WPA, tax credits have told me that they count it as income and it will probably end my TC claim. This means that I will not be eligible to UC as I am only eligible under transitional arrangements. My question is (1) Is this correct that for TC the back payment of WPA is counted as income? (2) on the off chance that I could get WPA to agree to wait, would it be better to transition to UC and then deal with the WPA claim. I am not sure how it would affect transitional protection or how UC deal with the back payment and ongoing claim? Has anyone received a WPA back payment on UC with an ongoing claim? How was it dealt with? I have been trying so hard to find answers and I really don’t want to end up worse off. I spent over 4 hours on the phone trying to get advice but had no luck. Pls help!

WPA counts as income in UC so it will be reduced £/£ for the weekly WPA.

Arrears should, I think, be disregarded for 12 months.

Thank you so much for replying, that’s really helpful and probably means that I would be better off to hold off completing my WPA application until after migration to UC, if that’s even possible. From what I can gather TC count the back payment as income for this year and it would likely end my claim as I am now starting a f/t job. It’s all a bit of a mess tbh and I can’t sleep.
