Joint account

Me & DP want to open a joint account.

My credit score isn't great (but improving) - will this affect DPs credit score at all or are my things completely separate to his

You will create a financial association between the two of you so it is possible that you will affect his score.

this may however already exist, are you named on any joint bills?

Blushingm · 21/05/2024 22:06

No not on any joint bills.

We don't live together as yet

If you do t live together, why are you considering a joint account?

Each put money in for when we are going out or going away easier than deciding who will pay each time

How would this be easier? Probably not a good idea to connect all your finances at this point and you'd still have to discuss what to put in and how to use it. Do you earn the same, have dependants, child maintenance, homes and bills and other issues?

Talk about sharing costs of trips/holidays/dates etc and agree 50-50 split on all (or other appropriate cost sharing split).

We'd only put in about £200 a month between us but it means if we go for food etc then we don't need to think about who is paying etc

We've been together 2 years. Idea is when my DD finishes uni in 2 years I'll sell and move in with DP. What I'd get from my house would pay off his remaining mortgage. We'd get an agreement drawn up by a solicitor to say what would happen just in case it doesn't work out prior to doing it.

He has DC who are a few years younger than mine
