Is this age discrimination?

Sorry not sure if this is the right place for this post. If a sports club offers membership at a reduced rate for under 25s and over 70s would this be considered as age discrimination? Adults over 25 and under 70 pay the full rate. My local tennis club has this set up and I am not sure this is legal?

Of course it's legal. Oaps and students get all sorts of discounts all the time.

In this case they're targeting age groups with discounts who would probably have a lower income, to entice them in. Perfectly legal.

If it's illegal then the entire leisure and hospitality sector are also in trouble for offering children and senior tickets for attractions, cinemas, dining etc?

DrJonesIpresume · 18/05/2024 10:37

If you think this is bad, you should look at railcards.

If you think this is bad, you should look at railcards.

And FREE prescriptions for children! Free bus travel for pensioners! Discrimination everywhere.

BetsyBobbin · 18/05/2024 10:39

Oh , stop it, of course it's legal, what a daft question.

Parky04 · 18/05/2024 10:41

Of course, it's legal. Football clubs/cinemas etc have been offering discounted tickets to various age ranges for years.

😂

Op of course its legal or right clubs can offer any discount it likes under 25s are still classed as young people and people over 70 might not be able to play as much or afford as much. Concessions are all over or have you not noticed?
