PIP TEXT

My dh, who I am carer for, was awarded PIP in 2022 for three years, until April 2025 and was told the claim would not be looked at again until after the end of April 2024. I am aware they start to look at claims again about a year before they end, so was expecting to receive a renewal form any day now. However, we have had some problems with our post being mistakenly delivered next door and this was OK when our neighbours lived there but they've now moved out and the house is empty. My fear was that his PIP review form would be languishing next door and I would miss the renewal date. So, earlier today I phoned PIP and was told a renewal will be sent to us in the next month or so but when I explained my worries I was reassured that a text would be sent to me to advise the renewal had been sent out to us. I've never heard of this before, I was aware that PIP sometimes text to say they've received the completed forms back to their offices but didn't know they sent a text to say they'd posted out the renewal forms to claimants. Has anyone else experienced this?

My partners claim also ends in April 2025, we haven't received any renewal letters yet. My dad got a text message 2 weeks before he received his renewal form. If they have your number they will text you.

@Kerrybemmy thank you so much for that information.

Mine also ends April 2025 but haven't heard anything.

Saying that, I've not received my renewal letter for ESA which usually arrives in January.

EmmaPeele · 19/05/2024 14:13

@OldTinHat My dh is in the support group and gets contributions based ESA, we never hear from them at all and when I phone I just keep being told it's been renewed for another year. I'm assuming they go off the PIP award?

@EmmaPeele That's interesting. I always get a letter in January which I then use as evidence for free prescriptions, opticians, etc, but didn't get one this year. I'm terrified to phone them because I've not had an ESA review for 5yrs, have been receiving PIP for two, and I don't want to trigger them grilling me. I do have a filing cabinet full of evidence if they want it though!

The PIP award doesn't affect ESA, they are different benefits with different criteria. People can be awarded ESA without being in receipt of PIP.

EmmaPeele · 19/05/2024 14:40

@OldTinHat Yes, I hate phoning them in case it triggers something!

If it helps my sons pip runs out in December and I got the forms sent april. So they won't have sent April renewals yet.

EmmaPeele · 19/05/2024 14:44

@Miley1967 I wonder why ESA don't contact us for a review then, do they just rely on people notifying them if there is a change in their condition? PIP always seem pretty hot on carrying out reviews, we now know that, even if it's awarded for three years, they'll contact you after only two to carry out another review.

IIRC ESA reviews were suspended during Covid and they just never bothered bringing them back. We're all supposed to be switched to UC this year.

My review for PIP is due December and I got my forms for renewal last month. So yours would probably be coming in June/July. They sent extra letters about the form and I did get a text too, just checked.

EmmaPeele · 19/05/2024 18:37

@BloodandGlitter thank you so much for that information.

I think they are pretty behind with ESA reviews.

My son got this last month
The review of your PIP has started. We are sending you a PIP Review form. If you have not received this in 2 weeks call us on 0800 121 4433. The date you need to get your completed form back to us is on the front page. We will text you when we receive your form back.

ParrotPirouette · 19/05/2024 19:06

Yes they text all of the time.
My award was due for renewal in April. I received the paperwork, completed it and sent it all back in September. Still waiting.
I have had half a dozen texts telling me they know I’m still waiting. Plus a letter advising me they will keep paying me until they get round to processing my review. My blue badge has expired.
