PREMIUM BONDS - MAY 2024

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/05/2024 10:23

New thread and I've been asked to give some basic info. Feel free to add stuff

PB have been about since 1957

Been 30yrs in April 2024 - so 1994 since a million was then the highest prize

nsandi-corporate.com/news-research/news/30-years-premium-bonds-ps1-million-jackpots#

Each bond is £1. You have to buy in minimum of £25 so means 25 chances to win.

Bonds have to be in for a clear month before going into the draw

If you want to cash bonds in then usually takes 3 days to go into your account

Winnings can be reinvested if holdings are under £50k

This means they will go into the next months draw without losing a month

Or sent to named bank account if over /want winnings in bank account

More info here

www.moneyhelper.org.uk/en/savings/types-of-savings/premium-bonds

The best time to buy premium bonds is on the last day of the month, as this means they are only held by NSI for one month and one day, without being entered into the prize draw.

PB to me is the fun and thrill each month of what if I win big and a millionaire - to them hoping win thousands to a day or two later being grateful if win £25😂

I have nowhere near the maximum and probably never will unless I win £50k + on pb

But only takes one £1 to win that million !!!

I love seeing the low holdings win high amounts

We've seen over the years £100 win £100k and £50 win £25k

Maximum is £50k per person so some do have all for family- mum dad and 2 kids so £200k etx

Those on the thread are varying from few hundred /thousand - to 20/30k to full holdings of £50k

Everyone is welcome to join in whether small or full holdings

One would expect if had full holdings of £50k to win something every month and think over the year to earn the same as if in a high interest account to win around £1925 in prizes

If have £5k average luck is £175 winnings a year

Obviously some people have better 'luck' than others and some worse - Ie full holdings and not winning anything a month or two

PB odds calculator below

moneymarvel.co.uk/calculators/premium-bonds/

From google (august 2023) - The consistent winners are the 1.16 million people who have the maximum £50,000.

They hold almost half of all premium bonds and, at current odds of 21,000:1, can expect a monthly stream of tax-free prizes: two a month and three almost every other month, 28 or 29 a year totaling £1,925

From google (Jan 2024) Tho equally With Premium Bonds, for every person who wins £1 million, a lot of people have to win nothing. So the median average will always be lower than the mean average.

This means that, with average luck, most people will win less than the prize rate each year, regardless of how many bonds they hold

But many on here do have £50k and then consider moving it to an account that pays 5/6% if their bonds aren't doing very well as would then def get extra money

But remember savings /interest get taxed

PB and their winnings don't

So they do dither whether to pull out from pb and put in high interest account if not winning anything

If you have PB but not sure if you have ever won esp if moved about a lot

you can write to NS&I. Include these details in the letter:

	Current name

	Current address

	Premium Bond holder number

All previous addresses where you might have registered bonds

	Your signature

You can send your letter to:

NS&I,
Sunderland
SR43 2SB.

There are 2 apps afaik

Cream - prize checker and if won previous month will show a pic - which we all get excited over 😂😂😂

Blue - often doesn't work for me but those who reinvest their winnings say it shows if won the day before app shows 🙀🙀🙀

And to confuse things I have a White app that is a bookmark - which shows info/list 😄😄😄

Now this has been debated on MANY times but seems to be correct

When do we find out if going to get a visit from AM 😂

Last day of working month - Millionaire knock /call

First day of working month - list showing all winners million to £1k winners - which I always put up for those who can't find it

Second working day of month - cream app showing all winnings

Hopefully I've covered everything

Good luck one and all 😄

You should look at a chip instant access account while you figure it out as the interest at the moment is 4.84%

Oooh thanks for this very helpful I’d never heard of them!!

Morning all. I'm just doing some decluttering and going through some old papers. Before everything went on the internet NS&I would send out certificates with bond amounts on. I haven't received this for years. Does everyone trust that the correct bond amounts are maintained online or would it be better to request printed bonds again? I had my first PBs when I was born and no longer have anything official on paper about how much I actually own in PBs apart from my online account. I'm always worried about possible Armageddon so am probably more paranoid than most 😂

happinessischocolate · 18/05/2024 00:17

If this Armageddon happened and all the computers went down the paper copies of the bonds would be completely worthless too without NS&I having an up and running system to confirm they were yours or genuine.

As someone said to me about NS&I as opposed to using any other bank - if the government can't pay out on your bonds we'll all have bigger worries than the money held in NS&I

daisychain01 · 18/05/2024 06:41

Rest easy @happinessischocolate @Henowner NS&I will have backup/fail over computers and business continuity plans in place. There's no way that there's a single point of failure for any bank, finance house incl government, there are many other things to worry about in life than that.

If Armageddon happens, we're all doomed anyway, so don't worry about it, and enjoy @Blondeshavemorefun thread. I get more worried about being addicted to my PB fix lol.

only 17 more days until 4 June - I'm getting excited already Grin

June 4th? Isn’t it June 3rd that all results will be available?

chaticat · 18/05/2024 08:15

I've decided I'm going to win big this month if that's OK with everyone else. £1000 should do it

SuzyQ12 · 18/05/2024 10:37

This will be my first month at FH after investing some inheritance so quite excited for the June draw! Best ROI we've had is a £100 win on my 10 year old's £50 worth of bonds.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/05/2024 10:47

Hippywannabe · 20/05/2024 21:56

Oh gosh, June 3rd is still so far away!

Countrylife2002 · 22/05/2024 21:21

I’m out Friday morning but back in the afternoon so agent million might need to get a cuppa til I get back.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/05/2024 22:04

Worse. I'm On holiday so abroad

But I truly don't believe I will ever win the million

But I have high hopes and dreams for list

Well that was poor timing Blondes Grin

Bimblesalong · 23/05/2024 07:38

Me too, Blondes, they’ll have to hope that DS is home for me or to send AW 1&2 to find us on the beaches.

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/05/2024 09:37

@Sparklfairy I know and @Bimblesalong hopefully they will find us

Guessing phone will be on loud that day

I am also on holiday but unlike @Blondeshavemorefun i truly believe I am going to win (every month!) and am absolutely gutted I won't get to meet Agent William in person and report back to the thread!

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/05/2024 12:03

@Spaceracers but would you really tell us all you won a million

I'm not sure I would

I may be like the June winner last year and do a new user name when they won think £10k

So say on the thread but not as blondes

Tho saying that I've been blondes for think 17/18yrs and dont eve. Know how to name change 😂

But as I'm unlikely to win the million guess not an issue

OP posts:
Spaceracers · 23/05/2024 12:09

I would absolutely tell this thread! I would need to tell SOMEONE. I just wouldn't tell anyone in real life... except maybe my husband.

£1m is enough to be quietly life changing but probably not enough for people to start asking questions.

Countrylife2002 · 23/05/2024 18:22

I would tell this thread and my Dad. I’m single and a lone parent and it would mean he wouldn’t worry. And I’d tell dd 😁

Countrylife2002 · 23/05/2024 18:23

Anyone know what the lowest holding is that has won the million? Was it a £100 that won £100k the other month? That would also do me. I have £125 in the game this month!

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/05/2024 19:47

Sure £10 has won £25k or possibly £100k

I just found this on NS&I website: In July 2004, £1 million was won by someone in Newham who held £17, the lowest holding to ever win the jackpot. They had purchased their Bonds in February 1959 and this is also the longest time before winning the jackpot.

Wow that’s amazing for them!

Also thanks @Blondeshavemorefun for all the info in the first post.

Id quite like to win big this month too please. Ive had much worse than average luck so far - I’ve won £300 in 2 years with £10k - so really I’m due a big win!

I’m also going to get my DS £50 PBs this month. Tried to buy them last month but forgot to upload his birth cert in time! I had my DDs to hand so feel bad that she’s had a month longer than him, but she didn’t win anyway.
