CrimsonWitch88 · 30/04/2024 09:07

I have 2 children my DS is over 18 now and my DD is 10 from a previous relationship

Recently been Talking about having another child with my new partner and it got me thinking I know the cap on claiming child benefit but does it still apply if you are no longer claiming for a adult child?
TIA

There's no cap on the amount of children you can claim for with Child Benefit.

As above, the cap applies to means tested benefits, primarily Universal Credit. It doesn't apply where you are earning enough or meet various other exceptions.

If it applies and you have more than two children and one of them moves out or ceases to be a Qualifying Young Person then number 3 moves into the 'vacant' place on your claim.
