Capita data breach compensation claims

Anyone with any experience of making a claim through any of the big law firms undertaking group actions?

(Capita were administering pension schemes for some of the UK’s largest employers. The cyber breaches occurred during 2023 and pensioners affected will have had a letter from their former employers advising of the situation.)

I’m just considering throwing my hat into the ring on the basis that I have nothing to lose as the lawyers are offering no win no fee (with their fee for a win at 25% + VAT, which seems reasonable to me).

Or am I missing something?

If anyone affected will be written to, why would you pay someone 30% of what you are being offered?

Am I missing something?

Indeed you are. Nothing has been offered, I didn’t say it had been.

So you ring them up and ask them what they are offering

That’s the problem with these claims chasers. No figures are quoted so I don’t know if it’s worth going direct or if I’d get a better deal through them.

There’s so many claims management companies now, surely they must be doing a good job to keep going, otherwise everyone would just administer their own claims.

I’m assuming this is an industry that arose from a need as no doubt the transgressors throw plenty of curved balls at claimants to discourage them.

On balance I think I’m going to use the CMC, it’s likely worth the 30% to save me any aggro.

Thanks for your input.

I'd be interested in hearing your experience, OP as I'm in the same position.
