Pip and working

Another pip question sorry!

I am in receipt of pip gif a combination of physical and mental health issues. My current award is due to end in December 2025 and I’ll need a review at that stage.

I work full time although sometimes with great difficulty. My work wasn’t really discussed in my initial assessment and I’m worried that the assessor will use it against me and remove my award.

i know that I’m worrying prematurely as my award doesn’t end until Dec 2025 and In reality will be extended due to backlogs.

had anyone got any experience of this? I’m terrified of losing this income

I've always worked since having pip. I can't recall talking about it very much during assessment.

I imagine it's only an issue if it goes against what you have said in your assessment, like I can't walk 50 meters but I'm a traffic warden.

They will take in to consideration the type of work you do, how many hours you work, whether any special adaptions have been put in place to enable you to do your job ie lighter duties. They will look at whether the fact you can work full-time contradicts anything you have said in your form ie you struggle to wash yourself because of back pain, but you work on your feet all day.

This.

I take it you did declare you work when you did the original form? As long as you’re not deliberating hiding it and are open about what you can and can’t do it’s fine.

It's only an issue if on the original claim you put information that is contradictory by working eg can't chop veg or prepare a meal yet doing a job that requires fine motor skills. Or that you can't travel independently yet are now. If things have changed significantly you are meant to inform them straight away not wait for the reassessment period

What type of work do you do?

I'm really surprised they didn't cover your work in assessment. My work was covered in quite a lot of detail in both my previous assessments.

I work part time and have never had an issue with this at my pip renewals. They’ve asked how I manage it with my limitations and it doesn’t contradict anything I’ve said on my form.

I also include all my care plans and letters from the community mental health team and that seems to help as I they did a paper review at my last renewal.

There is no need to declare it. The form doesn't even ask about work.

I know - I am on enhanced PIP for both elements indefinitely. I worded that wrong, I meant to discuss it. There’s lots of questions on the form that do sort of ask if you work, daily activities etc etc I think it’s important to include a true report of what a week / day is like for someone, and if someone works that includes work doesn’t it.

It only impacts it if it contradicts your evidence for the pip claim. For example, if you were an activity instructor, taking people mountain climbing, then said you find it hard to walk, it would raise questions.
