Breaking up and DC’s dad unemployed

I’m breaking up with my abusive bf plus DC’s dad has stopped paying child maintenance of £500 a month. I’m suddenly £1300 poorer each month. I make £7,000 a month. How do I start reducing spending?

Ummm... difficult to say without much other information.

£7000 a month would give you a large house and a very good quality of life very easily in my neck of the woods.

how is the extra £1300 currently being spent?

Wolfpa · 14/04/2024 12:10

£7000 a month? If that is correct it’s a massive amount and you will be fine.

sanityisamyth · 14/04/2024 12:13

£7k a month? Try living in the real world for a bit and then see if want to carry on whinging.

Babyroobs · 14/04/2024 12:18

7k a month and you can't cope ? Is this a joke?

Nocturna · 14/04/2024 12:30

Presuming you meant to put 700 a month.

People can't advise without seeing your outgoings

Is 7000 a typo? I can't see why you would have a problem with 7000. Maybe list what it has to cover and people can help?

£7000 a month? You'll be fine.

On another thread the OP is discussing moving to Dubai so I suspect its not a typo.

ExcitedButNervous0424 · 14/04/2024 13:18

How are you suddenly £1300 poorer if he only paid you £500?

Another poster here who is hoping that OP meant to say she only earns £700, not £7’000 , but I have a feeling it wasn’t a typo 😂

Iudncuewbccgrcb · 14/04/2024 13:31

The abusive boyfriend and DCs dad are two different men I think. DCs dad was paying £500 maintenance so presumably the abusive bf was paying £800 into the household kitty and no longer will be if OP is dumping him.

Lostforwords9 · 14/04/2024 14:17

It’s not a typo. I have 2000k in mortgage outgoing and about 1000 in bills like service charge and council tax, internet, heating etc. i pay for DC’s piano lessons and ballet lessons alone. I live in London so it’s expensive. Living in London it’s hard to save so looking for tips.

Exactly right.

So bills are 3000, being generous for food for 2 = 400 per month, piano and ballet another 200, that leaves 3400 for transport and general spending. 3400 is more than most take home.

Mumofoneandone · 14/04/2024 14:34

Can you persue the maintenance payments?
Make a spreadsheet of income and outgoings - this may take a bit of time but might show some immediate areas of savings ie subscriptions you could cancel, reduce going out so often, no buying new clothes. Check council tax for single adult...... child allowance etc
Might be urgent reduction in spending needs to happen, get back on an evening footing and then reaccess.
Maybe get a trusted friend to go through it with you to help....

FusilliNom · 14/04/2024 14:38

Can you move somewhere cheaper?
