Direct Debit Guarantee

Is anyone familiar with or have had to use the ‘Direct Debit Guarantee’?

I have a direct debit set up for the 1st of each month. This month, the payment fell on the bank holiday Monday, they did not deduct the money obviously, but nor did they on the Tuesday or Wednesday. I woke up this morning (Thursday 4th) and it had come out and left me overdrawn (basically, don’t earn much, so it’s first come, first served in my situation) hence other bills coming out in the meantime which generally get paid later in the month.
Bill in question on account says ‘Paid’ 1st April, but it hasn’t due to it bouncing back…
My question is, under the ‘Direct Debit Guarantee’ from what I have read, it’s set in place to protect you from payments that come out too early OR too late, can I claim for bank charges?

Thank you
