Help please with parking ticket

I parked in a council run car park a couple of weeks ago, put my car reg. in the ticket machine, paid my money but no ticket came out. Thinking the machine was broken, I nipped into the library with the kids. Twenty mins later, I come out surprise, surprise, I've got a ticket. I called the number on the board by the machine straight away and told the guy what happened. He told me to mail in which I did.

The council have mailed me back twice, first of all to say that no one reported a fault and I would still have to pay the penalty.

I replied, well I reported the fault when I called back.

They have now written back tome to say that they can see that a ticket was purchased but not displayed. Well they've admitted that I paid for my ticket but for whatever reason did not get a ticket issued. But they are still making me pay.

Help please - got three kids and don't mind paying a fine when I've illegally parked but I never!

i don't see how they can fine you when they've admitted that you did pay for a ticket.

I think the problem is that it is a pay and display car park. If there is no ticket displayed, then the driver is liable. Of course, if there was a fault with the machine, the council should not be issuing fines.

It might be worth writing to your local paper relating the story and asking if anyone else had a problem with the machine that day (if there was a fault, the council isn't going to admit it unless forced to).

Always worth sticking a note in your car window stating that the machine is faulty. Might not always work but some parking attendants will be kind.

I bought a ticket in a car park but got distracted by the kids and instead of putting it on the dashboard I put it in my purse and when to the cinema. Got a ticket. Appealed but was appeal rejected because I didn't DISPLAY it. Ba**rds.
