Unexpected maternity pay?

MissPeppaPig · 01/04/2024 12:05

Started maternity leave the start of June 2023
due back the end of May 2024.
i got a letter to say my paid leave would end the end of February.
me and my partner get topped up by UC (both employed). Logged on to UC this morning to find that I’m getting a payment from my employer, £50 less than usual. I get statutory maternity pay.
is this payment a mistake or have I worked it out terribly? Only the first 9 months are paid so surely I wouldn’t get a payment April/may/june?
can’t be holiday pay as I have less that 20 hours and that certainly wouldn’t be close to £520
any help appreciated, if this is the case UC will already be messed up for this month. I was going to email my employer this week anyway as they haven’t responded to my last email.

Is it a tax refund? You should get a payslip each month.

Don't you get paid in arrears so you are being paid now for March?

I’m not sure I doubt it! Yes I usually get one in the post but nothing has arrived yet. I’ve sent my employer and email to confirm so hoping I hear back.

This is what I’m wondering if I’ve totally got myself confused with it all.. fingers crossed that is what it is. I’ve sent my employer and email to confirm so hoping I hear back. Thanks!

Maternity pay is calculated weekly (39 weeks paid) rather than a set 9 months but paid on your usual payment terms, assuming monthly. Maybe it's the last payment?

Hmm yes maybe! Hopefully. I think with the letter stating my paid leave ends the end of feb I just assumed I wouldn’t get any more after the March payment but fingers crossed 🤞🏼
