Cancelled direct debit taken

I had a direct debit due to come out next week- it’s quite a big one and I had arranged with the company for this to come out next Tuesday- different to normal payment date as my own pay date is different this month.

I cancelled the direct debit last night but I’ve just looked and it’s came out at midnight. Is there anything I can do about this?

I think you have to cancel it at least 24 hours before it’s due out .

Oh I was hoping that wasn’t the case. Not sure what to do now.

Sorry didn’t answer the question - I doubt they will give it back and if they do by the time you get it sorted it will likely be next Tuesday which is when it will go again .

Could you borrow some money from a family member until Tuesday or ask the bank for a temp overdraft .

Unless you actually cancel the DD with your bank, at least 1-2 days ahead, it is likely to go ahead. All you can do now is call the company and request that they cancel whatever it is you arranged with them.

If you cancelled with the bank you're covered by the direct debit guarantee and the money will be returned tomorrow morning.

It should bounce back in . Normally it will get taken then returned.
