Automated credit

Just had £100 credited to my account (NatWest) - no reference and no idea where it would come from. Have nothing due to me.

Anyone had similar - what could it be?

What does it say for the account name?

Call your bank to make sure someone’s not going to attempt to scam you. They should be able to tell you where it has come from and give advice.

There are no details at all.

Just an automated credit icon (looks like a magic wand) - my name - then +£100. You can download transactions as a PDF - I've done that, and again no other detail, no account details, no reference.

It may be a money laundering scam, where someone contacts you and says there's been a mistake and asks you to return it. If you do its original source will have been 'lost' and it is now 'clean'. Also if you do it once it may happen again...

Actually I don't think a bank will reveal the source to you either.

Hi - well you're right about the bank not revealing anything @TwoLeftSocksWithHoles

Spoken to them and they said 'it's a BACS transfer, someone has gone into their bank and made this payment into your account' - we don't know who.

It's the kind of thing my mum might do, so I'll speak to her later. Sure she's done this before and her name comes up.

Thanks all.

Whatever you do, don’t manually pay it back to anyone.

Hi
just wondered if you ever got to the bottom of this? I’ve had a very similar thing happen, also bank with Natwest. Gone on to check my account and had a large deposit, again doesn’t look like a normal bank transfer just has a magic wand next to it and the only reference is my newborn sons name. Thinking if it was a gift from family etc it would just come up as a normal bank transfer.
