hi i recently took out my first credit card i made a spend on it, of 40£ that’s still pending 4 days later but the issue is i got a refund straight away due to missing item so the amount would of been 28.8£ but now there’s two charges £28.8 which isn’t pending and the original £40 which is still pending. This is capital one. How long until this updates itself? as it’s my first time using it so i’m now worried both charges will stay

It can take up to 7 days to drop off the system

unicornwonders · 19/03/2024 07:40

@Wolfpa so the pending one (original amount) won’t clear and will go off the system? leaving just the updated one. does it always do this? if the original amount wasn’t pending would it still refund it this way or would it just add back on the refund like a debit card? Thanks for your help i’m really confused only took it out to build credit

TBH I wouldn't worry about all this sort of stuff, there can be variations between providers and it always works out in the end.

Just set the DD to pay the full amount off each month and you'll never need to worry about missing a payment or paying interest.

Some cards adjust the DD if you've had a refund, some don't, or there's a cut off date. But if you're using the card for some of your normal spending each month, if you ever go into credit because of this, you'll just use it up quite quickly, and the next DD will be smaller.

i’m not worried about paying it more that i’ll be charged twice. i’ve already set a direct debit up but not sure when my first statement will be

The first statement will generate probably one month after you took out the card. It will then be due about 3 weeks later.
So when you get your bill, check it then and raise any issues with the bank. Not saying it's wrong to check throughout the month by the way, just lending transactions / refunds etc can get confusing!
