I've just done my insurance on confused. Com and I've gone with a new provider. I paid online, then a message said they were unable to take payment and to phone to speak to a representative. I did that and paid.

Today I checked my online banking and the failed payments are pending, as well as the one I did with the representative on the phone.

Insurance company only have the one policy and one payment for me. Bank say they can't cancel the pending payment.

Has anyone had similar happen?

The bank should be able to remove the hold on the funds; you just need to get hold of the right person to do it.

Not insurance but there was something there was a large pending payment for. It didn’t get paid though and just vanished from pending when I checked the following day. How long has it been?

Yes, the unsuccessful payments will disappear in a couple of days.

Mairzydotes · 15/03/2024 14:54

That's quite reassuring. It's just been since yesterday.

The system will have reserved the funds twice but the 2nd hold should fall off the account in the next couple of days. If it doesn't then the bank should be able to remove the duplicate one

Update - one payment has come out, I assume the one the representative did over the phone. The unsuccessful online payment is still showing as pending.

Today is the 5th working day. The pending payments have gone and my balance has gone back up , so all is well. That is what the woman in the bank said would likely happen, I suppose she must see it often.

Yes. It happens a lot. There was someone in sainsburys the other day and the same thing happened on their banking app. There's nothing the staff could do other than give her her receipt and tell her they'd clear as they were "pending".

Was that due to the issues with card payments Sainsbury had recently?

No, it's normal. I used to work in a shop and people would often come in to ask for a refund for failed payments that showed as pending on their banking apps. I think some banks show them and others don't. They would sometimes get really aggressive when we refused, and wouldn't believe us that it was a banking technicality rather than us trying to fleece them.
