Move to UC and DLA backpay

Hi can anyone help me please? I have received my letter to move over to UC by the end of May, though I am considering doing this to coincide with the new tax year in a hope to try and avoid an overpayment which many seem to be getting. My question is my son was awarded DLA at tribunal last August, money was received last September. It was a considerable amount of backpay which some has been used but about 3/4 hasn't. There is a use for this and I do have quotes for the works needed doing but I've not been able to start any of it yet but I do anticipate it will be used within the year of receiving. It's in an account in his name, but it's accessible due to the fact it is backpay and will definitely be used/need to be withdrawn from for the works to be completed. I understand backpay is disregarded for 1 year but how will UC see this money as though its in a children's savings account in his name I obviously manage it and will withdraw from it when the works start.
