I am 64yrs and have just stopped work. Have been in work since age 16yrs apart from a couple of years when had my children.

I Will live on savings and employment pension until I get my state pension at 66yrs but will not be paying NI contributions until then.

Will not paying NI affect the SP I receive? Only just thought of this. Thank you.

Yes, check your pension forecast online. I am 62, made redundant at 58 and don’t work now. I’ve checked my forecast and it says I am 1 year off getting a full pension, despite working since I was 16. It’s the recent years that qualify.

Also, It’s 67 in my case before I get state pension.

I’m 48 and have already earned enough for a full state pension - because I paid into SERPS when I was younger. It very much depends on how much NI you have paid over the years.

I’m 61, have worked and paid NI since I was 16 with a three year gap ( university). I contracted out of SERPS so I’ve still got one year’s contributions to make. The .gov website will tell you
