I just received my quarterly electricity bill and it seems huge (650). I know the electricity price is going up, but still ...
I've compared the average consumption with the same period last year and it appears we are consuming more than double per day now??? from 35 units/day last year to 86 units / day now.
We are in a 2 bed flat, 2 adults + 2 children
washing machine, tumble dryer, dish washer, 2 electric storage heaters in living room, oil radiators in bedrooms, electric shower, electric water heater.
the only thing we don't use electricity for is the hob, which is gas.

Could the fact that the consumption has increased so much indicate a problem with one of the appliances or the meter?

Does everyone have similar electricity consumption?

Storage heaters are a bugger. You tend to use more in the winter, have you looked at last years bill? Is this years an estimated or actual? was the last bill an actual or estimated? It is very high but storage heaters do cost alot to run.

Have you checked the meter? take a reading at the same time for 2 days to work out what your consumption is and calculate it from there. It should give you a rough estimate of how much you use. Did you record the meter reading when the man came to read it? Have you checked the calculations?
