Tax paye

Anyone know about tax issues?
I'm employed - just one source of income and paye
I have to do a tax return - not really sure why I think to do with income levels and pension allowances .
Just did my return snd I owe 900£
Can anyone help with why paye is 'wrong' and not taking the right amount?

Tax codes are often not completely accurate based on actual income which can result in under withholding of PAYE (eg you may have been given the personal allowance through the PAYE calculations but if your taxable income is over £100,000 you are not entitled to the full PA and so will be underpaying PAYE), or it may be that you received taxable benefits that have resulted in additional tax due on the return. It's not an uncommon scenario at all unfortunately!

Thanks so much - that does help . I think it's the personal allowance issue you referred to that will be the cause. I didn't realise allowances were affected by income.,
