Carers Allowance hasn't been paid in 4 weeks and I have no idea why

I get enhanced both elements of PIP and my husband is my carer and has claimed CA for the last few years while I've been on PIP. The only change is that a few days after the last payment of CA was issued, I received a LEAP back payment from PIP at around £8000. We notified DWP in writing and sent in bank statements and they said it wouldn't affect my ESA as it comes from an error in law. That's the only change to our finances and claims.

We only just noticed his CA payment hasn't been in since 27th Nov today as we've been using the back dated money to pay for everything. I'll be worrying about this until the offices open up again. We've had no letters or any contact from DWP either. PIP and ESA still being paid normally and on time. He usually gets his CA every Monday.

Any idea what could be going on?

So he would have Been due a payment on Monday the 25th which should have been paid on the Friday 23rd.
It's a bit late, but don't panic yet.it could just be a mix up with the bank payments.
There is no reason for the payments to have stopped and I think you would have been notified if they had been.
Give them a call after new year and they might be able to sort it out.

Apologies,I see he was usually paid weekly .
Maybe they have changed it to monthly payments.

Thanks for your reply. I'm wondering if it's related to the LEAP PIP back payment as the CA payments stopped the week that payment came in. PIP advised us to write to ESA and tell them about the payment but didn't mention CA so maybe we should have told them too? We thought they would already know since CA and PIP are linked. Though the back payment went into my account, not his but that wouldn't matter, would it?
I'm hoping it's just related to that. Can't help but worry when it comes to dealing with DWP.

The payment shouldn't have made any difference .the only thing to affect carers would be earned income. As long as your partner earns under £130 a week he would be entitled to it.
Was the back payment in your name( one of your benifits?)
It is only wages that would make any difference.
and benifits are not counted.or shouldn't be .
If it had been stopped for any reason,of which I can't see any.then you would have been told by letter.
Give them a call on wed and see what they say .

Yeah the back payment was in my name and paid to my account as is my normal PIP payments. Hubby doesn't work and cares for me full time so there's no income coming in other than PIP, ESA and CA. Hoping it's just a technical fault. Just so weird it happened when I got that back payment in.

There won't be a problem sorting it all out then .as you know savings don't make any impact on carers.only wages.
So I'll be all sorted out in the new year and you should absolutely get it back paid to your last payment .👍

How did you get on? Did you get it sorted out .

RumHam · 03/01/2024 18:02

We called up yesterday and they said his claim had been cancelled on 21st Nov which was the day DWP called me out the blue saying I would be getting the LEAP payment from an old unsuccessful PIP claim. CA said it showed I no longer get PIP on their system and that was why his CA was cancelled but my PIP isn't cancelled and we called PIP just to double check and PIP say everything is fine on their end and my award doesn't run out til August but I will be switched to ADP then so we called up CA again and they are looking into it and say it must just be a glitch or an error. Haven't heard anything back yet or got the backdated money. He says he will call up on Friday again to chase things up.

I find these helplines to be pretty shabby. The left hand never seems to know what the right is doing .
Just make sure that they backdate the claim for carers.
I am thinking that you are in Scotland ? My experience of the switch from pip to ADP has been a good one. But it does mean that there is a transition period where you are not sure which agency to call.
Keep at it,you know what you are entitled to,make sure that whoever you get on the phone is up to date with this change over to ADP.
Even if it means you are repeating your self .
