How is it the bank's fault?

If you have invested in crypto then you still have that investment right or have they completely stolen it?

Hello17378 · 27/12/2023 16:52

i have a disability/mental condition

@TheGhostOfTheOpera

They are not guiding only people with ME.
ME was the reason why they started the group, hence the name.

Still the best place to find information on benefits that I have found.

It's once the money goes below £16000. But the op might be treated as still having it

Thank you, 16,000. If OP is deemed to have spent the money too quickly, they may still be treated as having it yes.

LIZS · 27/12/2023 16:57

Hello17378 · 27/12/2023 16:48

Not sue them, i was just making a complaint so I can go to the financial ombudsman who might make them do something. You have to make a complaint before going to them

What is your complaint? Are you registered as a vulnerable customer? Usually transfers to new payees and larger amounts are flagged and you have to override the alert. If that occurred then you may not succeed even with the FO. Did you notify Action Fraud? While that case is pending and you may yet recover savings it seems unlikely DWP will accept your claim for means tested benefits. However PIP is not means tested, for example.

Actually it isn’t.

It’s £16k fur a couple. But only £6k if you are single.

@Hello17378 please don’t rely on MN for information around benefits.
You need reliable advice and that’s not it.

Have you been assessed as having capacity to manage your finances?

KateyCuckoo · 27/12/2023 17:01

Gosh some people just crash from one crisis to another don't they? Usually looking to blame others or rely on others to fix their mess.

Why didn't you use the money to give yourself a stable and positive future?

wrong

£16k savings for an individual means no benefits at all

£6k-£16k savings - your benefit are reduced according to the amount saved

Actually no. It's £6k when they're reduced for every £250 or part of, £1 a week is deducted and you get nothing after £16k.

nutster · 27/12/2023 17:04

@TheGhostOfTheOpera you have just indignantly posted shite information

You're wrong. When you have between £6000 and 16,000 your benefits are reduced on a sliding scale, if your savings are above 16,000 where they are reduced to nil.

OP posts:
nutster · 27/12/2023 17:20

OP you need support. I am not being cruel.

Please please go to citizens advice. Take whatever relevant papers you have. and be honest and tell them everything

do you have children?

IncompleteSenten · 27/12/2023 17:20

You're the guy who transferred his money to revolut then sent it to crypto scammers aren't you?

You should go to the cab for advice. You need proper advice and help.
Maybe if you report to the police etc and the DWP believe you are a victim they will accept your benefit claim. You won't know till you try.

You are not giving people any information so they can't help.

For instance:

  1. How much did you inherit?
  2. Who scammed you?
  3. How much did they scam you for?
  4. Are you currently working?

If you don't want to answer those questions here, Citizens Advice as others have suggested seems like a good shout.

Hello17378 · 27/12/2023 17:23

It wasn’t real crypto.

Just read your other thread. Did you take any of that advice?

Regarding your disability/mental health- do you have a case worker or social worker involved?

EnthENd · 27/12/2023 17:26

In theory, what matters is whether or not your goal of spending the money was to become eligible for benefits again.

In practice that's hard to judge and you will quite possibly end up having to take it to tribunal. When a benefit claimant comes into money, the DWP doesn't expect you to continue living like a pauper, but they take a dim view if you are a total spendthrift. If you have good evidence that you were attempting to invest the money but were the victim of fraud that helps your case a lot.

IncompleteSenten · 27/12/2023 17:26

Yes. Hence the term crypto scammers.
