Direct Line

I got my home and contents renewal from my insurance company today. They want to charge me £987.11, last year it was £367.53. I've got a 3 bed bungalow. Nothing has changed since last year, in fact, no claims have been made in the last 30 years! I rang them up and they told me that insurance costs had risen all across the board but as I had been a loyal customer they would give me a discount of £60. Big deal!

I did a quote on the Direct Line site and their price is £372. I'm just wondering if Direct Line is a good insurance company, anyone got any experience of using them?

You’ll only ever find that out if you claim.

I insured our new home based on their reviews and their quote.

I had same issue with doubling of insurance costs and same response when questioned.

Direct line got me a fabulous deal! This was house insurance though and after getting such good deal I got quote for car which ended up being triple!

My parents use them and have done for years (so are probably paying way over the odds now).

Anyway, they have claimed from time to time, including a big one where they had a burst pipe that caused a lot of damage, and have always been very pleased with the service.

I don't use them because their quotes are always on the high side for me. Have you tried a Moneysupermarket or Compare the Market quote?

Always use a comparison website to check quotes. Every time. And if you go via the likes of Quidco, you'll get cashback too.

I've claimed on direct line home insurance (twice) car insurance & pet insurance. They were very easy to deal with & I'd totally recommend. I have all my insurance with them now. It's true you only know how good they are when you need to claim!

Mine is £2.11 per month for £50k contents including bike and things in garage and shed.

Direct line are a reasonably well established outfit and don't seem to come up too often in the horror stories in media finance pages etc.

What sort of quotes do you get via the comparison sites?
