Hi I've recently put a claim in for carers allowance 25th November, has anyone applied recently if so what was your waiting time like? I've read 6 weeks and I've read upto 15 weeks?

Background

I don't work I'm on uc I've asked for it to be backdated the 3 months.

Thank you 😊

@LilyRae Excellent! You've got it before Christmas as you hoped 🙂

My CA (for caring for an elderly relative) was applied for on around the 9th November this year and started (with 3 months backdated) on 18th November.

Mum already claimed Attendance Allowance and DH & I aren’t on any benefits, so that may have made the application process faster.

@Catsknowbest don’t forget that carers allowance gives national insurance credits.

It also makes you entitled to the 30 hours free childcare if your child is under school age.

If you've been claiming uc for the period you've requested that CA is back dated for, and they pay you the backdated amount of CA, you'll have an equivalent overpayment of UC. Granted the CE will also be backdated, which will partly net off the overpayment, but you'll owe the difference.
