What would you do with £120,000 at 18?

My 18 year old brother has just inherited £120,000 in very sad circumstances. He's quite young and vulnerable for his age and has no real interest in the money - he's said he'll do whatever I tell him with it.

So, any ideas? I'm concerned about him having easy access to large sums in case someone takes advantage of him. What would you do?

I changed my will so that my son will only inherit when he gets to 25. He would just blow it all on a brine new sports car.

Sipp put 20 grand in now for later. Whatever he does that 20 will grow in index funds

Get an independent financial adviser - so the money is invested until he is mature enough to decide what to do

Do not broadcast the information about money

Discuss with the young person various aspects of finances - understandably they don’t know how mortgage or interest rates work etc he needs to under the options and not make a rushed decision

Definitely buy to let, get a property management company to deal with it, not so much hassle for your son then.

That way there’s a regular income, then when he’s ready he can either sell it or use the income accrued for a deposit on a house and the ongoing rent towards mortgage payments.

Or like my nephew he may want to travel, the income from the rent could fund this.

put it into investments that pay dividends @Melonportal
