No will- who plans funeral?

It somebody passes away without leaving a will (because they have zero assets and don’t envisaging having any money to leave behind either) who would plan and pay for the funeral? The children that survive this person or their partner who they cohabit with but are not legally married to? Would the children be forced to pay for this person’s funeral if this person does not have any money to leave?

No, it’s not compulsory to have a funeral

Sorry, meant to add that if the body is unclaimed then the council will bury / cremate it

What if you claim the body but can’t afford a funeral? Not on benefits or anything but just don’t have spare cash lying around for it.

The council will pay for a basic funeral. I expect the family would have to arrange this with the council, it will be on their website.

There is a basic funeral grant. Agree with pp, look online for local services.

The dwp offers a funeral payment. They may be eligible.
