Anyone having trouble with EDF smart meter?

ssd · 12/11/2023 22:17

My smart meter must have stopped working but I've had no notification.
I used to be able to see how much energy we were using day by day and this helped keep an eye on our money. Now for months and months i have no idea if we are in debt or not. It says on the app my next bill is in 23 September , I'm still waiting on a bill.

I've contacted them numerous times and frankly its like talking to kids, I've had emogis sent as answers, its ridiculous.

I'm really annoyed and worried about coming into winter with no idea where we stand with our edf account. I'm very conscious of money, we are low earners and i have tight control over money. I've been with edf for years and always been careful not to run up debts we can't pay. Now i have no idea where we stand.

The edf smart meter worked fir years, now i dont know if its working or not as the app isn't showing any up to date information and i can't seem to get anywhere in contact with them.

I don't know what to do next

Help!!!

Have the issues started when EDF "upgraded" their system (mid September I think)? I don't use the app, but their upgrade wiped nearly 2 years worth of data from my account and none of the smart meter data was showing properly till mid October.

Still can't view gas use past mid October, electricity currently shows up to September. It's a mess, but not the fault of the smart meter, just EDF being incompetent I think.

Octavia64 · 13/11/2023 13:11

Yes, I has had smart meter installed about a month ago.

Stopped working after about a week.

They do have a process to get them fixed apparently but the woman on the phone said it's a lot of hassle.

I have hive so I'm just reading the meter very regularly and working from that.

Not great though

DBinHK · 13/11/2023 13:33

My EDF smart meter hasn't worked for at least a year and a half.

They eventually sent out an engineer who said that the smart meter wouldn't work with my existing meters.
A few months later they sent the same man again, a waste of his time, and mine. Since then, nothing.

I send in a reading myself occasionally.

They seem to be pretty hopeless!!

I'm with EDF and mine's working fine. Is it the meter that's not displaying anything or just the inside display unit?

BrimfulOfMash · 14/11/2023 09:50

Yes, non stop.

Sending me ridiculous bills (that amount to whole year use), telling me they aren’t getting my readings, sending bills that don’t match my ‘energy hub’ record on my account.

And I can never get help that makes sense when I call.

It’s making me feel really insecure, frightened that I am paying too much, scared to put the heating on.

The meter itself is incomprehensible.

GoBackToPartyCity · 14/11/2023 09:52

Yeah, since the upgrade my energy hub isn’t showing any gas readings.

ssd · 14/11/2023 10:07

Why did they change their systems, my app worked fine showing the energy hub for years, now its just rubbish.

If you have the "myaccount" set up you can submit readings very regularly.

I've got it on my phone.

The actual taking of money seems fairly random so far (only been with them three months)

Callisto1 · 14/11/2023 12:16

I'm really annoyed that nearly 2 years worth of my energy data has just disappeared. We got a new boiler recently after the old one died and I would really like to compare the gas use over winter.

I was hoping that it was just teething issues after the upgrade, but it's been two months now and it's still not working properly. From reading the replies here, I guess EDF are just rubbish and the issues are unlikely to get resolved ☹

ohtowinthelottery · 16/11/2023 12:38

One thing I have just noticed with EDF is that where previously they only billed us every 6 months, in September they started billing us every 6 weeks. I haven't seen any notification about this. In the great scheme of things it doesn't matter - we are overpaying anyway (they wouldn't let us reduce DD by more than 20% of the vastly over calculated figure they came up with).
How often is everyone else billed when they pay by monthly Direct Debit?

DBinHK · 16/11/2023 14:08

Still every six months.

Lifestooshort71 · 16/11/2023 16:15

I pay by direct debit and they've moved me from quarterly to monthly as the former is "no longer available" apparently so instead of me submitting readings 4 times a year, it's now monthly - i think they've done it to get their own back as I've resisted a smart meter so far (and I've a feeling that any future fix would be dependent on getting one).

ssd · 19/11/2023 23:03

They are billing me at random now and not even gas and electricity together. Its all gone a bit pete tong.

Our EDF smart meter hasn't been working properly since EDF migrated accounts to their new system in October. Can't see gas readings at all on the IHD. Electricity readings seemed ok on IHD but aren't all showing on the Ehub. E-hub seems to work partially but inconsistently but only for electricity. Their own website does say that some customers are unable to see their gas readings (but Customer Service agent didn't seem to be aware of that until I told them (!) and kept trying to help us troubleshoot our in home display (which we'd already tried numerous times)).

Seems to be a multi-layered problem with various bits of the EDF communication system that either aren't working or work erratically. Not holding my breath for a fix. Interesting to read this week that 2.7 million of the 33 million smart meters fitted in the UK aren't working in smart mode. (Radio 4 You and Yours did a feature on it yesterday).

GoBackToPartyCity · 20/12/2023 13:42

Has anyone’s smart meter started working yet? I’ve still not had any gas readings since the October update.

ToThineOwnSelf · 20/12/2023 13:50

Did you see this in the news this week? Apparently due to smart meter issues.

Maybe the coverage will make them sort the issues out… I’m with EDF but keep refusing a smart meter.

Other customers tell of similar experiences to the artist, but supplier EDF says there is no wider problem.

Not ours… Still complex and different problems with both meter, app and in house display since the October account migration.
