Missing pension contributions

I’m a teacher for reference and from 2015-2020 worked for an independent school that contributed to my teachers pension.

Except I recently checked the app and there are no contributions from 2016-2020.

I don’t have my old payslips as they were emailed to my school address and I didn’t download or copy them

I’m v concerned but not sure how to phrase the email to the school to ask either for my payslips or what has happened to my pension contributions. I’m sure that I didn’t opt out. I couldn’t have. But part of me is worried it’s my mistake as I trusted that they were adding to my pension but worried I can’t remember seeing my contribution on my payslips

can anyone advise me how to approach this with my ex employer without making it more difficult to find a resolution? I’m just really shocked right now

I think in the first instance I would contact them and ask if its possible to get copies of your pay slips. Keep it fairly formal and short.

The error may not be with your former employer, it may be with the pension company.

Yes, I would contact Teachers’ Pensions first and ask them to look into it - they may just have not uploaded information to your record yet for some reason. Then if TP can’t help you, you can go back to your school and just say you thought you were in the scheme for those years, TP have no record of it, and ask them to explain the position.

Are you sure it’s the Teachers Pension Scheme? Some private schools pay into a different pension scheme, so your money might just be elsewhere.

Many thanks I’ve sent a polite non committal email to my old employer and I’ll contact TP now. It does seem so strange I’m sure when I checked previously there was no break - investigation time thanks for all the advice

Old post sorry! But did you ever get to the bottom of this? I have the last 7 years missing on TPS online, although my payslips show contributions from those years.

If you have the payslips showing the deduction contact the TPS direct with photocopies.
