Wages duplicate payment

Hi there. I wondered if anyone knew the implications of this. I have woken this morning to find my partner has been paid twice. Obviously he needs to contact his work and pay the duplicate payment back. I’m just worried about tax implications and also we get a small (but very much needed) payment from UC each month. Will this be affected? What questions do I need to get him to ask to make sure they’ve not put it through to HMRC that he’s been paid a much larger amount this month? Thank you!

He needs to get in touch with payroll ASAP and get it sorted. Tax should sort itself out but I think it'll need to be explained to UC via the journal. Hopefully they will correct it manually.

What does his payslip show? If his payslip shows the correct amount and it's just that the money has gone in twice, you don't need to worry about it, as his earnings are unchanged and if he sends back the extra amount, he has a correct paper trail so everything is straight with his work and UC.

However, if his payslip shows he's been paid 2X instead of X for this month, his work need to reissue a correct payslip for this month (make sure he is clear with them that they need to do this, otherwise you lose money from UC) as well as him sending the money back.
