Received money from council

I’ve just received £500.80 into my bank account from my city council but have no idea why! There are no e-mails I can find or letters to explain.

Are there reasons why a council would pay money to a resident or is it likely a mistake and they will be asking for it back soon?! Should I be phoning them to tell them?

I asked for my council tax be changed to single persons last year and I’m pretty sure this was done correctly so probably not a rebate.

I receive DLA for my daughter but anything in connection with that would be through DWP. No other benefits.

My auntie received a letter the other day saying she would receive the same amount. It said something about winter fuel payment.
She's on PIP and is a pensioner.

Ah thank you it must be that in connection with my daughter. Happy days!

Like you said l don't think it will be anything to do with your benefits that's DWP.. I think you have overpaid your council tax and it's a credit rebate.
Your letter will probably be in the post. This happened to my daughter when she split from her husband and claimed single person council tax. She also had a son on DLA.. but was nothing to do with her benefits.
