Car Insurance

Omg what the hell is going on!

My car insurance has gone from 394 to 628 despite no claims and 14 years NCD Actually panicking now as comparison sites are all a hell of a lot more than I paid 11 months ago!

Silly question but is this how it is now or is it worth going direct?

What car do you have?

What do you mean by 'going direct'?

Needanewadventure2021 · 21/10/2023 17:21

I drive a shortage

I mean are all providers generally on comparison site or are there some that aren't?

Yes there are insurers not on comparisons sites

GodblessHookyStreet · 21/10/2023 17:25

Car insurance is also about the bigger picture and not just personally about you. For example (just an example) your area you live in could have a higher rate of crime ,your car might be older and to source replacement parts is much more expensive.

Not all use comparison sites.

trader21c · 21/10/2023 17:35

Try Direct Line and Aviva or perhaps you have already?

UncomfortableSilence · 21/10/2023 17:37

Car insurance is up across the board.

Many companies are not on comparison websites, you can try direct, we renewed in August and actually the best price by far was staying with our current insurer.

OCM19 · 21/10/2023 19:31

OP, my insurance has gone from £350 to £1,050! I haven't renewed yet, and think I can get it to just under £1k but I nearly had a heart attack when I saw the prices.

That's a 300% increase. All because the make of my car is apparently easy to steal! I saved so hard to be able to afford this car (a Range Rover, which I always wanted) and wish I hadn't now. Honestly, it's shocking.

Do you mean you drive a kia sportage, as I have been looking at getting one instead, so would be interesting to know about the insurance increase too.

Needanewadventure2021 · 21/10/2023 20:35

@OCM19 OMG! I'd cry. To be honest I wanted to at the increase I had but now it seems so small compared to yours. That just seems so unfair. I know some people will have the attitude 'if you can afford that car you can afford the running costs' but that increase is mega and so unfair.

I've had my Sportage now for a while. I'd love an upgrade (I'd happily have another) but the cost of everything right now I cannot justify upgrading my car when my car still runs really well and is in good condition.

I've been driving for 14 years, no claims, convictions or anything. Turns out your NCD means nothing now! Just another reason to be crippling families at the moment. Mine is a 59% increase. Absolutely sucks as my salary isn't increasing to cover everything!

Looks like I can get it slightly less, but I'm talking slightly!
