Child benefit question

I've recently applied for child benefit after separation and have had a couple of months, but am paranoid that they'll say it was a miscalculation and ask me to pay it back at some point, having read loads of stories about the benefits office getting things wrong! So I just thought - as there are lots of bright minds on here - that I'd check if I definitely am entitled. In a nutshell, two kids (14 and 12), been separated one and a half years but not divorced, living separately in our own houses, I earn £45K a year and my ex husband pays me maintenance each month but that's agreed between us and not through the child benefit office.

Thank you!

It's usually tax credits that are wrong and have to be paid back.

AIUI the Child Benefit Charge applies where taxable income exceeds £50k so at £45 you would not be affected as the Maintenance is not treated as taxable in your hands.

However CBC is a bit of a backwater and its application on the ground is throwing up unintended/unforeseen oddities.

Thank you - this is what I thought and good to hear I'm correct. I've double checked but am so paranoid about it I've decided to put the money into a savings account just in case!
