Can I be refused a part refund?

We ordered some tiles for our bathroom in august (we ordered the amount our tiler said he needed for the job) and had a total of 7 boxes left over at a cost of £30 per box. We contacted the company in early September to request to send back the remaining tiles in sealed/unopened boxes for a refund (we knew we would need to pay return delivery). They have refused saying they can only offer refunds on full orders. Can they do this?

No company has to offer a refund for unwanted items, only faulty items, so yes, they can do this.
What does it actually say in their T’s & C’s?

There can be issues returning home decoration products such as wallpaper as appearance can vary between batch numbers.

There is a right to return all purchases made online/at a distance for any reason (with a few exceptions). Consumer Contracts Regulations cover this - it's worth a Google.

Unless you bought in a shop / in person? Or your tiler bought them - there are different rules for business to business transactions.

I am not sure about the specifics of your order but I would check and maybe push them on this if you think they are incorect. They might be correct but lots of online sellers ignore the rules so it's always worth checking.

One item is fine as long as it is one item. So if you ordered 10 individial packs of 10 tiles (or any 10 items) you can cancel one or more. Vs ordering 1 pack of 100 tiles (so 'one' item - you can't split this and return part of it).

So many typos! But hopefully that made sense!

Did you order online or instore?
If online then you'd need to tell them within 14 days that you wanted to return some and then would have another 14 days to return them
If ordered instore then you don't have a right to return.

Do they have a returns policy on their website?

The OP ordered the tiles in August. So weeks past the 14 day return period.

This sounds like you are expecting to be able to do some sort of 'sale or return'. I'm pretty sure the shop didn't sell you the tiles on that basis.

icelollycraving · 03/10/2023 20:20

I think your best bet is to sell on marketplace as they are not going to refund you, which is their right.

@cooperbug Really common with items like that. There can be big variations between batches so it makes sense not to have loads of different batches coming in and out of stock.
I took a fancy to an extravagant wallpaper (at £65 a roll 😅) and had my dad measure up etc. Ordered exactly what he told me and turned out he’d somehow measured up for DOUBLE what I actually needed and it was the exact same - could only return the full order 🙈😅 We’ve just moved house and I still have the spares with me just waiting for the perfect place to use them 😂
