Council tenants - has anyone taken advantage of the cash incentive scheme?

By that I mean the scheme where the local authority offers a cash incentive to tenants to give up their tenancy (to buy on the open market, say).

It's something I may consider doing, but wondered if anyone had had any experience of it, and/or any advice.

sounds intersesting..

but when you are living boderline it is very hard and sometime we wished we hadnt boought evn though we have a house which is worth quite a bit now

i personlly would stay council

spacedonkey · 16/12/2004 18:57

i must admit i am extremely hesitant to give the house up, it's so difficult to get public housing these days

but i'm interested to know about it as i'm thinking of the possibility of moving to italy

there is no way on earth i could buy the house i'm in!

omg, italy!

Iwould love to move to italy too, nut i have done no research

spacedonkey · 16/12/2004 19:01

the thing is because i'm living in central london, i think the incentive could be anything up to £30K which could buy me something small in italy

( just one of my hare-brained schemes )

Just idle thoughts really wig. But it is still perfectly possible to buy somewhere over there for £30K

can you tell i'm desperate

My moms ex did this, he got given 10,000 to give up the tenancy on his flat but had to prove he was putting the money down as a deposit on another property, which he did.

spacedonkey · 16/12/2004 20:17

not at all fluent in italian (yet) - i'm just starting to learn

as for what I'd do, I don't know yet. I have worked in IT for 10 years and am now looking to do something completely different. One can get work teaching english over there certainly.

Plus point is my mum lives there and my brother has just bought a house there too, so there are family ties.

Really it is just a pipe dream at the moment though.

Maybe I will, but not until it's realistic to do so!

Thanks for your advice though all
