Large amount of money put into wrong NS&I account.

So I went to my bank and asked them to send some money into NS&I Direct Saver. In error the bank have transferred to the childcare NS&I account which was marked Customer Receipts.

The NS&I website states if you want to make a large payment go to the bank and they will know what to do!!

The reference number relates to the Direct Saver account and nothing to do with childcare!

I presume I need to speak to NS&I who are truly shocking ( a long story!).

Any suggestions as to what to do please?

this is confusing. Whose account have they paid it into? Did they not make a test transfer first? Why didn’t you do this yourself?

You're not being very clear. What do you mean by "the NS&I childcare account marked Customer Receipts"?

Sorry. So it was so large I had to go to bank. I was over the limit of £25k. The website says if you want to make a large deposit for Direct Saver then go to the bank and they will do it for you. The bank saw a NS&I account for TRC Customer Receipts and I thought that was it. So did they… I now realise that there are many many NS&I accounts so it’s in there but in the wrong bank account but with a Direct Saver reference number.

TRC is a government run childcare service run by NS&I

I am presuming that I need to speak to them and get the payment back and then pay into the right account. I stupidly thought the NS&I bank account was ONE account but with the correct reference it would go to the right place.

We have also heard horrendous accounts of their bad service

Did you not have a note of the account number you wanted the money to go to before you visited the bank? Sounds like you're both at fault if you said yes to the payment at the time. Go back to the bank and see if they can recall the payment that was made in error
