CONFUSED HELP?! Balance transfer - have I fucked up?

Hello Mumsnet

I am really hoping you can help, I've gotten myself into such a panic and I'm not sure this is even going to make sense.

I had a Lloyds credit card with a balance of £1,850 on which was coming to the end of it's 0% interest rate this month, so I applied for a card from HSBC with a long 0% interest rate and a £0 fee for a balance transfer, to move the balance over to.

I was accepted for the card so applied for the balance transfer from Lloyds to HSBC. I never received any kind of confirmation that that balance transfer was accepted or anything, and when my card arrived a week later and I set it all up with online banking etc, I gave it another week and the balance transfer hadn't happened.

SO I used the HSBC app to set the balance transfer up and all was good, it worked.

BUT now I'm in a panic, I've just logged onto the HSBC app to pay some off the balance and seen it has a balance of £3,700?! And my Lloyds account still has £1,850 - and showing as two balance transfers made.

What on earth have I done?! Have I somehow tripled my debt - now I have £1,850 to pay on the Lloyds account and £3,700 to pay on the HSBC account?

I'm panicking and obviously no customer services are open at this time but I think I'm going to lose sleep!

I've attached pics - first two are the Lloyds account balance and the payments, third is the HSBC. Can anyone help at all?!

Your balance after pending is in credit. It looks like you've transferred the money twice. Effectively, you could spend £1850 on the old credit card and it would come out of the credit balance.

I'd speak to your new CC provider and see if they can reverse one of the transfers

@HunterHearstHelmsley Thank you for your reply - effectively could I pay £1,850 off the HSBC card with the Lloyds card and undo it??

Yeah, you could actually. I didn't think of that!

If it's definitely 0% fees then I'd do that. If there are fees, I'd look into seeing if you could reverse it.

Ring them up explain what’s happened and ask them to reverse one of the payments.
