Universal Credit - Maternity Leave

We have been getting UC as I only work 3 days a week and my husband is self employed and doesn't earn a lot so its mainly the childcare element we get.

I had another child last November and was on 6 months nearly full pay and then 3 months half pay. The UC increased when my pay went down. But now it has increased even further as my maternity pay has fallen to nil.

I am wondering am i allowed to take time off with no pay and still claim the increased UC. I had wanted to the take the full year to bond with the little one and use some small savings and help from my dad and then return to work.

But not sure if the UC people will allow this.

Any advice

I think so, I don’t think they make you look for work until your baby is older.

You have no work commitments with a baby under one. So they would not do anything if you stay off.

Thanks all 😘
