Just curious to see what’s normal. We got on ladder a bit late (early 30s) we have since moved so in a house that we see as our forever home / most expensive we will own.

we currently have approx 45% equity in home worth around 425k (east midlands).

85% , house is worth 800k and we owe 120k. It's doubled in value in 8 years

40, 75% equity. High household income and unfortunately inheritance.

I’m late 30s, DH early 40s, we have approx 50%. Scheduled to be mortgage free in 12 years unless we overpay (which would be a struggle at the moment).

House worth around 140k, owe 76k, not bad considering it's interest only! Have paid off a few lump sums but 40k is purely because of increases over the years, only paid off 24k. I don't live in it, I hate it and it'll be sold in 8 years regardless

  1. Have 42% equity on a house the bank suggests is worth approx £850k in the South West. Feel sick I have so much left to pay off. Seriously considering moving to a cheaper part of the country so I can become mortgage free by 50.
eurochick · 16/09/2023 18:41

At 45 I had about 90% equity and could have paid the mortgage off, but we decided to move and now have about 70% equity.

Age 37 and 40. Own house outright from early 30s now worth about £600k. A big BUT - dh's dad passed away suddenly and we paid off the mortgage. We'd prefer him to still be here. He went far too soon and never got to meet our dc.

Jmaho · 17/09/2023 10:13

Aged 43 about 60% I think. Based on house being worth £450k
We haven't overpaid it but that's the plan to start in about 5 years time

floofbag · 17/09/2023 10:13

£650k but moving soon hopefully 🙏

TrashedSofa · 19/09/2023 19:42

About 60%. Although a third of that is how much it's gone up since we bought it, which was nothing more than the luck of the draw.

Nw22 · 19/09/2023 19:44

About 50% at 32 but selling it atm

TheLightProgramme · 19/09/2023 23:09

38, about 80% of £1m home. South east. Two high earners. Housing in our area is expensive so it's not uncommon to have a high value home but most people we know are stretched to the hilklt with a huge mortgage

Spectre8 · 19/09/2023 23:21

40 with 58% equity. House is worth £600k but bought it for £280k so if I was to sell it tomorrow I'd make double.
