Hi my DD is retaking 2 A-levels
Will I still be eligible to claim for her for UC and child benefit?
Thanks x

Not if she's over 18 I don't think. Same as child benefit, stops once they turn 18 and finish school

Funnyfive · 23/08/2023 05:16

You will get child benefit until they leave full time education at 18 or 19, I know a kid who retook Year 12 and they got child benefit until they finished a levels - so 3 years, left when they were 19.

I think they need yo do 3vto be ckassed as full time education

MadNads · 23/08/2023 05:54

It's 12 hours a week or more to be classed as ft. You can get uc/cb until 20 as long as the course is determined before they're 19.

Thanks everyone.
Incredible how you can give yourself a headache trying to understand it all then ask on Mumsnet and several people know the answer FlowersFlowersFlowers

There's effectively a year's 'slack' in the system for those who need to do retakes or have lost a year in education for any other reason.

curaçao · 23/08/2023 10:16

I am not sure 2 A levels meet the 12 hour contact time threshold.our school would not allow this because ,they say, it wouldn't attract funding as a full-time course. So from a benefits point of view I think it might not class as full-time education

Bromptotoo · 23/08/2023 15:00

@SadBut will need to show her DD is a qualifying young person under Universal Credit Regs 2013 Reg 5:

https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2013/376/regulation/5

I've not heard of UC refusing to accept A level 2 as being <12 hours. Assuming DD is attending same lessons as others in the Upper 6th then I'd expect at least 3double lessons which, together with homework and in school study should be enough.

If DWP say it's not then OP will need to consider grounds for Mandatory Review erc.

2 A levels isnt full time so no, if it was 3 A levels yes.

Triflenot · 23/08/2023 18:19

It should be fine
