Switching to UC from WTC

I've recently had to switch from Tax Credits to Universal Credit and I'm still waiting for my first payment, which they say will be paid on the 18th Sept. My account also says I can get an advance which will be taken out of subsequent payments. Is the amount usually the same as the monthly allowance or is it often a different amount? The advance allowance figure is considerably more than I currently get on Tax Credits which is really confusing as when I go on Entitled To, it states that I'll receive less on UC. I know I'll need an allowance to tide me over until the payment arrives but I'm cautious about how much I'll receive in regular payments as obviously it's a loan.

It will likely be the amount before deductions for wages as they won't know what you have earned in your assessment period until the last day of the assessment period. So yes the advance amount is likely to be a lot higher than what you will actually get.

Thank you @Babyroobs I didn't think I'd be entitled to nearly £1000 a month! Having had a look, it amounts to the single with 2 children element. It's all so confusing. Entitled to says I'll be £10 a week worse off on UC and the Better Off Calculator says I'll be £225 a month worse off! Hoping it's not the latter.
