6.2 percent in an ISA is tax free. So its still 6.2%

What it's worth if its not an ISA depends on the amount, if you have any savings allowance to use (3 different amounts depending on your other interest/income situation), and your marginal tax rate.

It’s a bond, not an ISA, that @Ihateslugs was referring to, so they’ll be paying tax:

@Daftjon Congratulations, how amazing!!! 😀

ThisWomansWorkNeverEnds · 10/09/2023 19:32

I won 1 x £100 and 1 x £50 this month which is the most I've won n ages. On over £24,000 holding. Still well under interest rates.
DH and 2 DC didn't win anything at all on a few thousand each.

Well done to all the winners.

Ohmylovejune · 10/09/2023 22:36

It's equivalent to 7.5% tax free. Only for this month, of course, but that is a good monthly return.

VisionOfYou · 17/09/2023 21:35

September is feeling really, really long right now.

Am I right in thinking that the high value winners will be 2nd October and then the rest of the prizes 3rd October? It feels like ages away!

CaveMum · 17/09/2023 21:49

When is the latest in a month you can buy Premium Bonds? I’d rather not do it on the last day of the month as I know you need to hold them for a full calendar month before they are entered into the next draw - I’d rather the money sat earning interest for an extra week or two before investing!

nettie434 · 17/09/2023 23:36

I might be wrong here but I think the calendar month starts from the day NS&I send the email acknowledging the investment. I have a standing order for the 27th, which is the day I get paid. I think the bonds bought on 27th August weren't in the September draw but will be in the October one.

PriamFarrl · 18/09/2023 00:02

I always buy the day before pay day as I put in what I have left at the end of the month. Pay day is the last working day of the month. I bought some at the very end of August. I also had a win which was automatically reinvested. Both are down as being eligible from the 1st of October.

Happiestathome · 18/09/2023 07:11

@CaveMum the end of the month will maximise the interest you can receive. You will have earned interest for that month where the money is currently and then be eligible for the next draw, 1 month and say 2/3 days away. Instead of getting your usual interest again a month later, within just 2/3 extra days you are eligible for a prize in the draw. Had you paid it in mid month you would be losing half of that months interest plus another month before its eligibility for a prize.

Thanks all, I will aim to buy ours around 27th of Sept!

daisychain01 · 18/09/2023 18:33

I'm not sure if this has been covered - we received an email from NS&I that the Government has added more money into the PB prize fund, £66M to be exact. From Sept.

Even more chances to win

We increased our prize fund rate for the September prize draw from 4.00% to 4.65%, the highest it’s been for over 20 years. An extra £66 million was added to the prize fund with over 250,000 more tax-free cash prizes up for grabs

The odds of each Bond winning improved to 21,000 to 1, meaning even more chances for you to be a winner!
🙃
Definitely something to get excited about in only 15 days according to my app

Oh. No I didn't get that

Maybe they don't send to people who don't have many

But since the prizes have gone up I've been more lucky with my small amount then when I had thousands in it before I drained it for ivf and extension

So carry on Ernie and keep letting me win 😂

@Blondeshavemorefun I think the emails get sent to people who've recently bought premium bonds - We bought a few last month so they will be included in the next draw. Nice to know us PBers are in with more of a chance 👍

I've seen links posted on these threads that Agent William does come on weekends, so I'm gonna be excited on the Friday and Saturday.

Naturally, I'll extend that excitement and believe the list will be released on the Sunday instead of the Monday, and be disappointed when it isn't Grin

Five days of glee and anticipation!!

Just received a letter from NS&I saying that a £25 prize won in the July draw has been doubled to £50 as "the original winner wasn't eligible to receive it".
A few more like that would be nice. 😁

boatgirl81 · 20/09/2023 13:47

How bizarre, how can they not be eligible? Also how have they chosen you to double your prize and not simply redrawn it again? Congratulations on the prize though!

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/09/2023 14:07

Weird

Cactusali · 20/09/2023 15:18

This happened to my husband. Got a cheque for £25. No-one on here believed me at the time, so good that it happened to someone else! I guess the intended recipient was untraceable. Probably an old paper bond.

boatgirl81 · 20/09/2023 15:20

Ineligible is different to untraceable though. I thought they held onto the prizes if they couldn't find you.

Cactusali · 20/09/2023 15:30

A quick Google suggests ineligibility may be due to holding over £50k. I suppose either deliberately fraudulent or holding a mixture of paper and online and accidentally exceeding the limit.

Ohmylovejune · 20/09/2023 15:46

Late draw I'd imagine.

It could be someone went over 50k. Easy to do if you buy 50k and never knew, or forgot, Aunt Doris bought you a £1 bond as a christening present.

Or it was bonds for someone in probate and it was realised the winning was after 12 months, which is the maximum prizes can be won after a death if kept in bonds. My Mums probate was really simple but it was still 12.5 months before Dad was able to get the bond money with probate. Some no doubt take much longer.

Well done! Hopefully not the other option...a scam.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/09/2023 16:00

So say I died and won a million of estate isn't sorted then mini blondes wouidnt be able to claim it if over a year

🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀
