Have any pensioners found surveys to pay them? All the ones I've tried boot me off as soon as I confess to being old & poor.

I'm 65 and DH is 73. We do Prolific studies. They are not marketing surveys, mostly academic studies. They pop up at all times of day and you have to jump in quickly.
Some are interesting and tricky, others not so much. I get roughly £50 - £60 a month from them. DH gets more because he's always in front of his computer.

SydneyJKL · 02/08/2023 21:39

Selling on Vinted. Not a money maker as I have bought the clothes at some point but certainly a good money ‘re-couper’.

FannythePinkFlamingo · 02/08/2023 21:41

I do Prolific too. I currently have over £340 sat in my account, but I only do the tasks on an ad hoc basis. I could easily make more if my actual job didn't get in the way!

Stormyforcast · 02/08/2023 21:48

https://app.prolific.co/

I make about £200 a year from doing barely anything. Pays for my phone bill each month so that helps, and if I wanted to do more I could make more easily.

There's a wait list but the surveys pay better than others I've seen

Prolific

Prolific is never open to new registration though. been trying off and on for a year and its still closed

Crepesandconans · 02/08/2023 22:11

Is prolific surveys?

Radiodread · 02/08/2023 23:36

I tried surveys and found each and every company absolutely shit. The money per hour is appalling and quite often you give them loads of info for them to tell you you’ve been “screened out”. You’d be much better off doing gainful self employment, literally anything, including ironing, cleaning, gardening, (insured) dog walking or sitting, crafting to sell, etc. even tesco pays a better hourly rate than surveys.

Crepesandconans · 03/08/2023 05:27

The reason I like surveys is that I can do them literally wherever I am and when I have a few minutes to myself.I am trying to get extra paid jobs outside the house, but for a lot of people eg with very young children, disabilities etc, time constraints, good survey sites can provide useful additional income.

I hear you!

Tried QMEE and basically seem to do a bit of a survey ie waste 10 minutes of my time, and then get booted off. I joined another site that wanted videos and audio descriptions/conversations of lots of different things - couldn't cope with that!😂

I would rather do cleaning/hoovering etc than do that.

AuntieMarys · 03/08/2023 05:52

I don't do surveys but market research online. Earned £450 in the last 10 weeks from doing 5...that's about 8 hours work.
I like anything to do with pensions/ financial stuff but can bullshit my way around most things.

sunnygardenday · 03/08/2023 07:33

@AuntieMarys do you have a link to the market research please?

AuntieMarys · 03/08/2023 07:50

I went on Martin Lewis website and he suggests some. I also googled research companies in my area

Thanks for this thread. Also needing to generate an extra income - needed to borrow from DC's savings to get me out of a desperate financial pickle - a decision I didn't take lightly, and I have sleepless nights now because I'm trying to put the savings back in.

I've enrolled with TopCashBack and I try and do as much as I can through that. I don't stay with insurance firms (we all know that customer loyalty isn't rewarded) so between home, car and other insurance, if I go through this website, the money creeps up. It isn't loads but it's not to be scoffed at.

I have a referral link below - I think I get £15 and you get £15 to enrol and start using. I hope it's ok to post it here?

It's completely free to set up an Etsy shop. The downside is they do take a lot of fees from your transactions. It is a very easy and convenient platform to use though.

It's hard to say how much time I spend on it per month. It did take me some time to set it up initially, and work our designs for my cards etc. Now I've done that it's just about completing orders, which doesn't take me long as greetings cards are pretty simple to do. Maybe 15-20 minutes per order (10 minutes to print and package and then 5 minutes to the post office and back).

What equipment do you need to make the cards?

Crepesandconans · 03/08/2023 08:21

I'd be very interested in doing market research from home, thanks for tips, will have a look.

Allice · 03/08/2023 08:31

I work full time in a school, admin not teaching.
I have a reselling business and buy things from Facebook marketplace, charity shops and car boot sales to sell on.
I do lots of research, pay tax on it and work really hard at it but it's worth it, I make around 1k a month, am sitting on probably 30k of stock. It can be as small or big as you want it to be, start with things you know and would buy second hand yourself and go from there.

Dashel · 03/08/2023 08:57

Have you looked at bank switching? That is probably the best paying side hustle (if you are eligible) you can always open a dummy account with a bank that doesn’t do switching offers but is part of the switching service.

The details are on MSE, likewise if you like playing games there are some ok offers on Swagbucks but get the referral code off MSE as it’s better than you can get from a person, there are Reddit threads on how easy the games are to complete so read those first. They are American posters mainly so check the offer criteria Is the same.

Another thing you can do apart from the traditional cash back apps is the food shopping ones, where you buy the product but they give you so much back via PayPal, sometimes 50p sometimes the whole amount.

I use Shopmium and if anyone would be kind enough to use my referral code H6E48 they can claim a free pack of Dairy Milk Buttons

There is also Green Jinn and Checkout Smart which work the same

MillenialAvocado · 03/08/2023 09:39

@10oclock I did buy a new printer as I needed one that printed on card. Apart from that it's just printer ink, cards/envelopes and delivery envelopes. Also I use tissue paper and stickers to wrap the cards in. I paid for a programme called Canva to design them on, but you can get a free version of that.

Try prolific. They do the screening before you are offered a task. It also shows you the hourly rate and they are not allowed to pay below NMW. Some are much higher.
They are not surveys more research studies. I make £700 - £800 a year. Could do more if I chose.

@Allice What kind of items do you target?

Allice · 03/08/2023 16:55

I started with the things I know, like and would but second hand, for me Le Creuset, Emma Bridgewater, orla Kiely, boden and joules clothes and went from there.
I watch a ton of YouTube and do lots of research.
I've recently branched out in to store return pallets but I'm not entirely certain how lucrative that is, it's early days for me.
